Bethany
I think you got some really good answers. Except for Baron's. I hope he/she doesn't have kids. They won't ever learn anything because everytime they ask a question about something they don't know, Baron will snap at them and belittle them for asking for help. I hope to God he/she hasn't already reproduced!!!!
Anyway. As for you question...I have a year and half year old, and he was sleeping through the night at a month old. It wasn't anything I did, he just was a pretty adaptable baby. It depends if yours is sleeping through the night or not. Babies that age should be getting about 16 hours of sleep in a day including naps. But like the others have said, it also depends on your schedule, if you get up early, then put him to bed earlier or vice versa. The other thing about bedtime is that you have to be consistent. A ritual of bath, reading, bed is a great one. They will learn to know what to expect and know to get ready for sleep. And the other important thing is that they sleep in their own beds. I don't know if you do this or not, but I highly recommend it. It just makes things easier later. They already are used to sleeping there and it isn't a struggle to break a bad habit later. Hopes this helps, and good luck, and always ask if you don't know. We have all been first time parents and it is hard. There is no shame in asking for help. It only makes us better parents!!!!

At 6 months old, what time she goes to bed should be dependent on your schedule and your preferences. There is no right or wrong time or even a better time. The only important thing is that she gets enough sleep.

She should be getting 11-13 hours of sleep per night depending on her naps. If she is not getting enough sleep at night, consider moving her bedtime earlier so she doesn't wake early just because the sun comes up.

When my first was 6 months old, she went down around 10 or 11 pm and got up at 10 am. My second is 10 months now and has been on a schedule going to bed at 6:30pm and getting up at 6:30am. With our first, my husband and I were night owls and I preferred to sleep-in in the morning. With my second, I need him up and ready to leave for preschool in the mornings.

Each baby is different too... try to let her set her own schedule and just pay attention to her cues.

Since she's only six months, she should get at least 2-3 naps a day. If she wakes up at about 8, put her to bed at 12. Then when she wakes up at about 1:30/2 o'clock, put her to bed at 7. Depending on the time she wakes up, you should put her to bed before 11.
This might not fit your schedule, but unless you want to sleep through the ight this is best.

Some people make fun, but I put my 6 month old son to bed at 6:30-7:00 each night. He does wake up once (sometimes twice) to eat, but he will basically sleep until 6:00 the next morning when we have to get up for work. He only naps about 2 - 2.5 hours each day, so he needs to get 10+ hours of sleep each night, and with this schedule he does.

Some parents think if they put them to bed later they will be "more tired" and sleep better but this is not true. Babies need 10-14 hours of sleep depending on their age and keeping them up late is only making them more sleep deprived.

Watch for signs that your baby is ready for bed and don't ignore them. Go with the flow. Rubbing her eyes, staring into space quietly, wanting to be held more than normal...

Good luck!

I think a good time to get baby settled for the night is to start around 7pm (depending on when the last nap was). Maybe a bath, then jammies, then nurse or give a bottle. She might not sleep through the night but it's a start! My baby goes to bed by 7:30.

My son is 11 months and he is in bed by 6pm.... and sleeps until 6 in the morning... he is so used to being in bed by 6 that if hes not he is cranky... and its perfect for me, cuz I like the free time at the end of the night to relax and whatnot...

He started this at about 7 months though... He also takes 2 (20 minute) naps during the day... he is always full of energy.

Good luck though!

Both my 5 month old and my 3 year old go to bed at 8 pm every night. The baby wakes up at 9 am, my son wakes up at 7 am.

As to when you should put your baby to bed, you should do it at a time that ensures she'll get enough sleep. If she sleeps in late in the morning and it works for everyone's schedule you can put her to bed at a later time. My older child was one who got up at 7am no matter what time we put him to bed, so earlier was better for us.
