As long as you have explained about weirdos or perverts to your child & your child knows what to do if confronted by one, then maybe.
If you know the friends your kids wants to go to the mall with & you think that they are trustworthy, then yes as long as you stay very close.
Just make sure to give your kid a cell phone to call you & you have an additional cell phone. You could shop in the same mall as the movie, just in case.

I would say 14-but it depends. Are there any older kids with them? And are they just going straight to the movie and straight home? How "mature" (strange word for a 12 year old yeah) is your 12 year old? Are the other kids "good kids" or have they been in and out of trouble? Plus some malls have rules now regarding youths in the mall, that they must have an adult with them if under a certain age.
Also you need to find out what kind of movie are they going to see, are they actually old enough to get into the movie without an adult?
I would go with 14, at 12 i would rather they had someone older with them.

I would say age 12 or 13. Your daughter isn't too young to go to the mall with her friends. If it's during the day and not too late at night she should be fine. When I was that age I would go to the mall around 1 or 2 in the afternoon and when I went to the movies I would catch a 7:00 movie.
She will be fine as long as she's with a crowd of friends.

Without addressing the issue of age (and you already know it's a bad idea to let a 12-year old go, anyway, otherwise you wouldn't be asking), no good can come from going to the mall. There is absolutely nothing there for a 12-year old.

I was around that age when my parents let me go, but as a mother of a 9 1/2 year old daughter, your perspective changes LOL. I would say only for an hour or two, and then you , or another parent can go. Have them meet you at the food court, etc. As long as your mall is in a safe neighborhood, it's probably ok.

This rather relies upon on the personalities of the babies, no longer their age. it would be whilst they have shown themselves to be responsible and can look after issues on their very own (like falling and getting decrease -- does the new child arise, wash the wound, persist with a band-help, or does s/he run to you crying and blaming the bicycle or the sidewalk or somebody else for inflicting the autumn?) Does the new child comprehend -- and use -- homestead telephone variety, mothers and dads cellular telephones, and who and the thank you to touch if mothers and dads are unavailable in an emergency? Does the new child act accurately contained in the environ? a new child that throws tantrums on the food market shouldn't bypass draw close out at a mall, case in point. a new child that gets worried via crowds, loud noises, shouldn't bypass to an entertainment park on my own.

I was 11 when my parents allowed me to do that. I'm pretty sure they stayed in the mall to be safer, but they never let on.
I think 12 is reasonable for a responsible pre-teen in a safe, suburban community. I don't think it's wrong, however, the first time - to stay in the mall. Let her know you're going to do it, and tell her that if all goes well, you might consider leaving her next time.

I think 12 and 13 are appropriate ages to start letting your kids do that. However, it's important to consider how your child acts. If he/she is irresponsible, then it might be too young, but if you know he/she can be trusted then it is fine to let him/her go to the mall with his/her friends.
