It is a program or part of a browser that modifies HTML to remove code that opens windows to display advertisements. The only problem is that it can't distinguish between ads and windows that are opened as part of the site. For example clicking on help at a site may cause a help window to open. A popup blocker may stop it. That is why most popup blockers have the ability to be turned on and off by site.

Depending on where you're from it's either something to stop carbonated beverages or your father.

If you mean pop-up blocker... it's a program that prevents advertisements from popping onto the screen while you browse the internet.

these little windows you get with advertising in them when you visit a website are called popup windows.

a popupblocker blocks them. both internet explorer and firefox (plus many other programs) have popup blockers.

to find them in ie and firefox click on TOOLS > POPUP BLOCKER

sometimes when you are on a site and they tell you to click a link and nothing happens it's because they want you to open one of these popup windows to do something like fill out a contact form or read a calendar.

when this happens you can get it to work by holding down the CTRL key then click on the link. this will temporarily bypass all popup blockers until you release the CTRL key.
