Because he sux!!! He let his fans down, esp. me! I even have 2 jerseys of him, his Nike AF 25 shoes and a page of cards. And after all those spending, time and money, he rewards his fans with losses? Screw the Mavs! Screw Dirk!!!

it's not just dirk nowitski, there are many players like him. chris webber, karl malone, patrick ewing all to a degree. The excuse used to be "well they need to get the ball at the right place, so if under pressure and they don't have enough time to setup their shot, they're uncomfortable and won't get the normal rhyme."
but with dirk this year, a big guy who can get his shot anywhere, you can't argue the choking as anything other than lack of mental fortitude. in fact, i'll even say that it's more common to have a mentally tough little guy than a big guy; the little guy have to far more competition, there are only so few big guys, and to be effective by being big is completely different than to be effective by being mentally tough.

Dirk has a conscience which gets to him in big game situations. He can't handle the pressure of big games because he is too afraid to make mistakes. That leads to him thinking too much and mentally forcing himself out of big games.
"Dirk has more of a conscience. As driven as Dirk is, I don't know that he's an assassin. I'm not sure that he's a guy who at the end of the game has the mental toughness to go for the jugular. Dirk has to be among the top two or three in the MVP voting, but on the other hand, if you ask me to list a group of two or three guys I want to have the ball in their hands at the end of a game, I don't know if Dirk's in that group. He would really be bothered by not making a play; he would be devastated. To some degree, that's to his detriment."

He's 7ft tall. When you throw a lot of bodies at him, there's not much he can do. He's not strong enough to overpower others and not mobile enough to leave them behind. He's forced to shoot or pass in desperation. I wouldn't say he cracks under pressure. He's hit game winners (Remember San Antonio last eyars in the West finals? or his shot vs Phoenix with 1 second left this year?). I would say he's just not the go-to guy with the game on the line. My only criticism of his game right now is he's not penetrating like he was last year.

Yeah, sure he may be the MVP of the regular season, but he cracks under pressure.
