Depends on how many diapers the diaper cake contains, what brand of disposable diapers are used, and also what else is included. Are you going to add baby care items like pacifiers, blankets, etc., or will your cakes be diapers only? Are you going to construct your diaper cakes with Pampers? Huggies? A generic?
I would do a little internet research and see what others are charging for their diaper cakes. Compare the contents of other people's diaper cakes with your own. When you see a diaper cake that has about the same number of diapers (and the same brand), with about the same amount of baby supplies included, make a note of the price.
Once you get a good feel for what's out there, price your cakes competitively. You don't want to offer the most expensive diaper cakes on the market, but you don't want to be the cheapest either. People will assume there is something sub-standard about your diaper cakes compared to others if they cost substantially less than other cakes that are available. Besides, you are just losing money if your prices aren't competitive within the market. You can charge *a little* less than most people if you want a little edge over more expensive retailers, but I wouldn't go much less than 5% below average.
Keep in mind that diaper cakes you see on eBay are going to be priced a bit less than diaper cakes from commercial websites - people who offer diaper cakes for sale on eBay have to price them lower to stay competitive with all the other sellers of diaper cakes on eBay. There are a lot!
I wish you great success with your diaper cake business!

Without knowing how many diapers were used to build the cake, I have a hard time saying how much exactly I would be willing to pay. But I think a good rule of thumb would be that I would be willing to pay about 50% more than the cost of just buying the diapers (so if a diaper cake included $20 worth of diapers, I would be willing to pay about $30 for a finished cake).

i spent $50 dollars for a cake shaped like a baby carriage. It fed aroun 50 people. It was a little harder to do than a diaper. I believe at Martins, it was 35 to feed 50 for a diaper. It really depends where you purchase the cake at. They were two tiered and you couldn't tell the plastic was in the center to seperate it. It looked pretty good!

I was 20 at my baby shower! My shower was pink and orange and some games we played were guess how big her belly is (typical), Who knows the Mommy best ( a quiz of 15 funny questions, multiple choice. It was great to see people agonize over the right answer while rushing to be the first to finish), baby bingo and heaviest purse. When guests would walk in we'd weigh their bag. We didn't let them know why we were doing it. (Since almost all girls carry around those fabulous oversized purses stuffed with junk.. it got pretty competitive later on.) The winners all got $20 Starbucks gift cards.. b/c everyone loves coffee! Favors were these cute boxes with Orange and Pink M&M's (my fav) that read "Chloe '08". The key to great shower is really personalize it with the Mommy's favorite things. Make her feel like you really put a lot of thought into the party! Hope you find everything you're looking for. I think its a great thing you're doing for your friend!
