1. There is metabolic conversion of glucose from the blood combined with oxygen that gets used by the muscles in the legs to climb the stairs. The person climbing will be doing work against gravity at the rate of m*g*h per riser of the stairs. The person will have a vertical and horizontal speed which can be related to kinetic energy as .5*m*v^2.

2. From what I did above, the mass and speed of the climb relate to energy expenditure.

3. Maximum power output is related to the ability to circulate blood and absorb oxygen.

4. Cycling, jumping, rugby
