There are many, many, many ways to write 12.
They could also use Roman numerals (XII), or tally marks where you make 4 lines and cross one over all 4 of them to make 5, know what I mean?, like you see someone counting down the days on a wall in movies.

Do you mean in addition,subtraction,multiplication or division?
Example:
Addition
1. 7+ 5=12
2. 11+1=12
3. 8+4=12
Subtraction
1.15-3=12
2.16-4=12
3.17-5=12
And the pattern goes on but I'm not sure what the directions say
