I'm not sure if this is just in MN or nationally; but there is a proposition to tax the income of men more than women. The arguement is, because men make more then women.......!!!!!Since when???? If you take 100 women and 100 men from all walks of life, the men will no doubt have put in more hours of work, therefore in that respect they would make more money, so obviously because they put more hours in they made more. But to say a man makes more money than a woman, in a case where both have the same job title and both started at the same time is nonsense! Women have had equal rights for a long time now....this is just insanely ludicrous!

What the hell is next? Are they gonna start taxing our income according to our weight or how much air we breathe in during the day???

I have not heard of this. If you have a graduated income tax, there is no need to specifically single out men for greater taxation. If they really make more, than they will pay more in taxes solely based on the current system. There is no need for intentional gender bias here.

I am also from MN and find it absolutely insane that the Legislature is even considering tax increases when we have a two billion dollar budget surplus over the next two years. Two billion dollars would allow us to increase spending across the board by 6% over the next budget period (this is based on the projected expenditures of about 33 billion dollars over the same period).

actually, in most corporate and government jobs it has been proved (news investigation, W5) that men are paid nearly twice as much as women for the same job description. The investigation also uncovered that women are charged more in certain areas of service than men are such as car repairs. I'm not saying that all men are paid more than women, but that there are areas to which this as been proved to be true in certain jobs and services. oh yeah, reality check there are women who work just as many hours as a man do?. myself I work 12 hrs a day five days a week that's 60hrs per week. my sister has her own business. she works 60 to 70 hrs per week. 10 hr days mostly. oh and by the way we both also take care of the cleaning of our houses at the end of our work days. she is a single mom besides and I take care of my elderly parents as well. I also grow my own vegetables(carrots, potatoes, cabbage, etc. to name a few) all done by hand too. now try and tell me that I don't work as hard as a man. oh and did I mention I also do work for several different charities throughout the year. I also have a huge function for Halloween where I do a haunted house and yard theme every year for my community all by myself, it takes me three whole days(72 hrs) to complete set up as I have a huge piece of land. So, I know I work more than most of the men in my family and they know it too. They are always asking me how I do it, they tell me they would be too exhausted if they had to do what I do. I also grow my own flowers, I make my own compost, I make most of my Halloween material.

In Illinois the average woman makes 71 cents to every $1.00 a man makes. . . (admittedly I do not know all the details of this statistic, I heard it on a radio program yesterday) However, I do not agree with the proposal.

Very disturbing. I haven't heard about it, maybe it is just in MN. I think some people up there must have spent too many winter days outside without their hats.

Men used to make more than women- one dollar for every .70cents a woman made.

but now we have laws to correct that and force businesses to pay the same for the same job, despite different genders
