Here's some ideas to "roll ya own" Internet Security Suite for free. Free is always the best.
1. For your Anti-Virus......(Always use only 1 A-V)
I like the FREE, AOL ActiveVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. ActiveVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, ActiveVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
Full test results are here:
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82
ActiveVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.
Updates many times per day to detect new malware.
Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

2. For your Firewall..........(Always use only 1 firewall)
An excellent free firewall is Comodo Personal Firewall. It can pass firewall "leak tests" that even most of the "paid-for" firewalls cannot pass.
And Comodo has a great support forum. Where the CEO / President of the company might even himself answer your question! Check it out at:
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
3. For your Anti-Adware and Anti-Spyware needs...............(use 2)
Pick and choose, 2 anti-spywares from the list below and alternate scanning with them on a regular basis. New spywares are created literally hourly, so no single anti-spyware can really detect all malware. Have at least 2 on hand and alternate scanning with each every few days or so. All are free. All can remove as well as detect.
Spybot Search and Destroy:

Ewido:

Adaware SE:

SUPERAntiSpyware:

Windows Defender:

Unfortunately, many "paid for" anti-spyware products are in fact either of limited usefulness or downright scams. When in doubt, look at the list of rogue anti-spyware solutions listed here:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
4. And to protect your computer from ever getting infected with spyware in the first place............ (use them both)
SpywareBlaster:

SiteAdvisor:

Everything here is 100% free!!!!!!
Great luck!

Well you can try a vast verity of Anti-Virus and Spywhere programs for free. Thier is a downfall however, they are only for a limited time. Such free programs as AVG Anti-Virus (Free Edition) works well for a home user such as yourself and you can purchase the professional version for around $30.00 (depending on location). Some stores in you're local area might have "Free" Anti-Virus programs after a "Mail in Rebate". A big company like Nortan Anti-Virus will do this a lot. I personaly do no use Nortan becouse it is almost like they "take over" you're computer with software and it is not as easy to get rid of. Some companies who might look as tholgh they sell software or perform a free virus scan can often install annoying popus, change you're background or even lock you out of you're own files until you purchase thier software so LOOK OUT! Microsoft has a list of 6 months to 1 year tril companies that they trust. I hope I have answerd you're question.
Thanks,

AOL ActiveVirusShield is only free for a year but is a great program. The only other I know of that are just free trials are the ones that may come with your ISP or when you purchase your computer. Those I list below are totally free for home use. Some, like Kerio/Sunbelt firewall start you off with a trial of the features of the commercial version, but once the trial runs out the basic functions that you need are still available.
Free AV's generally have lower detection rates, but if you surf safely and use some common sense they are more than adequate.
Free Antivirus:
http://www.free-av.com/
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-...
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download886.ht...
Only install one, as the protection components that run in the background will conflict with each other, cause problems and slow you down if you install more than one.
Free firewalls:

http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpostf...
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/ca...
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/...
Only install one of these also.
Two other general antimalware's that will get rid of trojans (most common nowdays) and some viruses and spyware/adware that are safe to run along with AV's:
