You mean politician? They're supposed to be "ordinary" people, but at this point they need to be ordinary people with a lot of money if they want to get anywhere.
I can give you an example, though, of an ordinary person who went into politics. I live on Long Island, NY. At least 12 years ago a crazy guy got onto a Long Island Railroad commuter train with a gun. He killed several people and wounded many more. A woman named Carolyn McCarthy's husband was killed and her adult son was seriously wounded. She ran for Congress, mostly on a gun control platform, and won. She's been re-elected several times. She was, until that tragedy, just an "ordinary" person; a nurse, in fact. So, it can happen.

Yes, many local officials are ordinary people. People like Kucinich (sp?) grew up poor/ordinary, so did Clinton. I'm sure many republicans also came from "ordinary" backgrounds.

EVERYONE is a politician. Yes, ordinary people can run for elected office.
