As an educator and a person, I am against this statement. Standardized tests offer only a snapshot of what a student learns in his or her formal education.

In my opinion, the goal of formal education should be to prepare students for life in the adult world, to give them the skills they need to find jobs and contribute to society, and to develop their character.

Of course, everyone has a different idea of what is important in education. The standardized tests are put in place kind of like a system of checks and balances, to ensure teachers are focused in what they teach and that students are learning important basics.

You could easily argue for either side of this statement. It is purely an opinion. You'll have a hard time finding evidence, other than what "experts" say.

Only in part do I agree. The goal of formal education is to make a well-rounded person educationally speaking and one who will contribute to society for its betterment . On some occasions you must accomplish high scores on standardized tests to achieve the requirements for admission to a higher educational level. But the education is only as important as it is utilized in a concrete practical situations. Standardized tests are only a means to an end and cannot be seen as a goal but only a piece of the puzzle .

The goal of formal education is not to teach but, rather to give you the opportunity to prove that you have the commitment to overcome adversity and set and achieve goals. You can learn to do anything by reading the instruction manual(s).

But it takes a dedicated person to face and over come the adversities such as need to make high scores on standardized tests.

I am against this statement because there is more to education and testing than gaining high scores in tests.Bright students that normally do well can freak out at exams.Overall assessment of a student should be the work that they have done throughout the year.It looks like you should be arguing against this statement. That may well be the aim of the question. to argue for or against.

I would be for this statement because, in almost all cases, test scores reflect what kind of classes/colleges or jobs you could get in the future.

If you get good test scores, you get into good classes/colleges, and then you get a good job, thus being successful.

If you get bad test scores, you don't get into the best classes/colleges, then you can't get the best job because of the classes/colleges, thus you won't be as successful as you would've been if you had gotten good test scores.

I hope that this helped!
