I read picture books to my 5 1/2 month old. She loves the ones with bright colours, and any books that have different textures to feel. We also go to story time at our local library, for an outing.

I also play many games with her; Pattie Cake, Pig went to market, round and round the garden etc. She loves them!

I'll sing nursery rhymes to her (London Bridge, 3 Blind Mice, Twinkle Twinkle, Mary had a little lamb), and sometimes I'll turn on the radio and dance for her.

If I'm doing the dishes or hanging out the washing, I'll bring her with me, and let her hold something that isn't dangerous, and I'll show her the other things. Quite good for learning and speech development IMO,

We also go for a daily stroll in the jogger. Gets her out in the fresh air, and helps me to relax. Some days we'll also stop in somewhere for a coffee.

We also go and visit other mother's and babies/toddlers. She really loves interacting with other kids.

I'll give her tummy time on the floor, and shake some toys in front of her. I'll also let her play with and hold the different toys.

She also has a swing, jolly jumper. activity gym and rocker which she uses when I am busy and can't entertain her.

At the moment, we're looking into two other group activities; mummy & baby swim classes, and kindermusic. I think she'll love them both, we just have to find the time to fit them in!

Hope this helps!

My 12 month old son had this two months ago. Basically the doctor told me to monitor if he was dehydrated at all - best check is has your baby got wet nappies as normal? If so, water will be fine. If not, or if appears at all dehydrated, best to get a hold of dioralyte or phone NHS 24 for advice. My baby unfortunately needed admitted cos he got dehydrated, but 12 hours of rehydration and he was totally back to normal! If you are worried, dont take the risk!

Here's a bunch of play and learn activites. Just click on the age, then click on the name of the activity for directions and materials (materials are always things you already have around the house). http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=30&e=playandlearn&ccat=play_and_learn

We've done just about everything on the list with our 5 month old.

Read to your child...let them play on the floor with your supervision...place toys around the room and watch your child go from toy to toy. Make sure that the toys are safe and that they have an educational purpose. Cause and effect...lights and sound for motor skills...soft animals for touch...

We also have a bouncer which our son sits in and works on his leg muscles. needless to say...it is working and he is showing signs of being able to support his own weight on his feet. he is about 6 1/2 months....

Hope that helps.

peek-a-boo, basic colors, sign language for bottle and eat, counting, naming body parts.
My son turns 11 months next week and he's pretty consistant with colors, walking, "up", and he tells us when he's hungry.
