A plane is flying at Mach 2.3 near sea level where the temperature is 24 degrees celcius. what is the speed in m/s.

my question is what do the Machs mean and how do they tie into the problem???

Mach is the speed of sound. The speed of sound depends on temperature and pressure.
It is 340.3 m/s at sea level and 15C.
As the temp increases so does the speed of sound.

340.3 X sqrt(( 273.15 + 24)/(273.15 + 15)) = 345.57m/s

345.57 X 2.3 = 794.81 m/s

Mach number is the ratio of the speed of whatever to the local speed of sound. The speed of sound is proportional to the √ of the absolute temperature and is 331.45 m/s at sea level and 0° C. So, for 24°C you would take the above # and multiply it by √((273.15+24)/273.15) to find the speed of sound at 24°C. Then multiply that by 2.3 to get the speed of M2.3 in m/s.......

Mach refers to the speed of sound. The speed of sound depends on temperature and air density.

At sea level, at a temperature of 21 °C (70 °F) and under normal atmospheric conditions, the speed of sound is 344 m/s (769 mph or 1238 km/h).

However, I don't know how you would calculate it for 24 °C. Or at least how your class taught you how to do it, because there are different ways to approximate it.

a mach is the speed of sound which is depenant on the temperature and atmospheric pressure. so find the speed of sound at sea level and 24c multiply by 2.3 and convert into m/s

Mach is the speed of sound.

At 24 C at sea level
using
C=331.4+0.6*Tc
=346.04 m/s
multiply by 2.3
