I am a Christian Straight Male. Why do you men and women feel slighted if I don't agree with you on some things due to my beliefs? I don't insult you. I would defend you from harm. I just feel that when I speak about my belief in God, many of you think that I and many other Christians wish to judge you. Why? I have nothing against anyone. God knows that you are persecuted. I too have been persecuted for just being black. Why can't we debate like adults? You share your views and I mine? Talk to me.

Goldwing, can you read? I never asked you to be straight. i asked you why do you think that Christians stand in judgement of you?

Wow! Cornfed. I put out an olive branch, and I get stoned, huh? God knows all things. He speaks to all things. Mankind refuses to listen. I'm far from schizophrenic, your retort is childish and this is an adult forum.

It at least appears that some of you can be honest and forthcoming like Tina. Maybe some people don't want or need compassion and i am saddened by many of the answers here. The god i serve tells me to love ALL people and to judge NONE. Yet when I try to reach out to ALL people, some will continue their journey into hate and misery. I am sorry to have bothered you! God Bless You!

All Christians do not stand in Judgment of "us" BUT those that do not speak out against those who ARE standing in judgement , well,,, I think MLK said it best when he said,

"History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people."

"In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

Does that make it clear?

I don't feel slighted, everyone is entitled to his or her own beliefs. I personally don't like the idea of a God who doesn't love all of his children and chooses to condemn some for something that they did not ask for and can not change. But that is why I don't subscribe to organized religion. If you are not judging and simply wish to share your beliefs then I am more than happy to talk, it is only when it turns into a debate that I back away (but not argue) because there is no point to debating an issue that neither of us are going to change our minds about. I am sorry that you have run into so much animosity here, but you have to understand that we are used to being set upon by so many people that only wish to hurt and they do so in the name of God. Sharing views is something that I would happily do with you, I will not however debate with you. My grand mother always told me that "proper young ladies do not argue politics or religion", while I don't necessarily consider myself a "proper young lady" I do think that it is not polite society to argue anything and benefits no one. Thank you for not judging and have a wonderful day.

You have every right to express your opinion hun. Just to let you know, that it isn't you per se.. We have a lot of people that don't just come in to express opinion. They come in and tell us we are going to Hades and we are all sick and twisted people.. etc. So naturally that puts a lot of us on defensive. My goodness, this morning one of "our own" put up a joke question and got slammed!! It seems to be a natural ideal here for us to attack before we are attacked. If you put someone into that position so many times it becomes Pavlovian. Many of us understand and respect your beliefs, and just like everyone, we do not always have to agree. It is those who come in here to do nothing but spread a message of hate. There are a few, not going to name names, that come in here and throw scripture left and right. That is all. It honestly gets a little tiring having to be constantly on the defensive for a lifestyle that is not a choice. No one should have to defend who they are. Maybe I am a little bit of a lefty, but to me that is a good thing. I defend all races, cultures, orientations and spiritualities. This life is too short to have to quibble over the little things in all honesty. If you come in asking a polite question in a polite manner you will receive the same response, (Excepting a few). Then again, there are the bad days with trolls slamming left and right and everyone's hair is standing on end and ready to bite... If you're ever in the mood for a good debate, I'm more than available, as I am one of the few people that see that monotheism is the same religion worldwide, just with different names and traditions, and (Blasphemy!!) Science and religion can be married if looked at objectively. I'm all for a debate if ya want.. ;-) Friendly and adult. Have a great day hun!

I respect your opinion completely. There's a difference between saying you disagree (such as you are doing) or coming out and saying gay people are going to hell, are freaks, pedophiles, abominations, etc. This is the reaction the LGBT community often gets from the Christian/Religious community. That is what I take issue with, being so hateful in the name of God. It seems somewhat contradictory to me. I personally feel that you have every right to live the life that is right for you, just like I have every right to live the life that is right for me. As long as we're not hurting anyone, I say to each his own. I think another issue may stem from the fact that many LGBT people are religious, and it's almost like God is being claimed by only straight people. Maybe that isn't the best way to phrase that. What I mean is, by being gay it doesn't mean you are a heathen or atheist, etc, it simply means you fall in love with members of the same sex. That has nothing to do with a persons relationship with God. I don't know, that's just what I think.

BTW,
I would like to say that I firmly believe that religion should NOT be the basis for laws in our country. One of the main reasons same sex marriages are not allowed (pretty much the main and only reason actually) is based on religion, and that is incredibly unfair, especially with our supposed separation of church and state.

I don't feel slighted by you. everyone is entitled to their beliefs and opinions. unfortunately, there are "real" Christians, and then there are those who "use" religion to justify being a bigot. those who claim to be Christian, and yet pass judgment on others and preach hatred and intolerance. I am a Christian, and when I was growing up I was taught in church and in Sunday school that God created and loves us all. by that logic, what the hypocrites tell us, that means God makes mistakes? I don't think so. again, everyone has a right to their own beliefs and opinions, but when those beliefs are used as tools of hatred and intolerance, and those that do so verbally/physically abuse us, try to take our rights and even our lives away, then THEY are the ones that are abominations.

Well for one thing, it is largely on the basis of your religion that many Americans justify discrimination against homosexuals.

So don't you think it's natural that many gay people bear just a teensy bit of animosity towards Christians?

It's not that gays expect you to abandon your beliefs. You can still think that homosexuality is sinful. You can still think that your church shouldn't agree to marry gays. But you SHOULD recognize that many people view it differently, and that the only way to reconcile those views is to adopt a view of tolerant inclusion. In other words, I may not agree with it personally, but I agree to tolerate it because I know that in a free society I may hold views which I expect others to extend the same courtesy to me and tolerate.

If you know gays have been persecuted, why are you not speaking up in your church and saying hey, denying equal rights to gays, even the right to marry, is WRONG? Didn't a lot of white people stand up against other white people and say, "Hey, racism is wrong!"? Can't you help stop the persecution among your fellow Christians who believe it's okay to deny equal rights to gays, the way many white people stood up and helped blacks against other racist whites?

You say you would defend gays from harm. But if you're not speaking out against the denial of their rights, often on the basis of Christian beliefs, are you really defending them from harm?

Are they not being harmed emotionally and spiritually by the Christian view? Anytime a Christian justifies denying rights to gays on the basis that "God said it's sinful", isn't that devaluing a fellow human being just because of the way they are? Were blacks not being harmed by the "separate but equal" doctrine, even though many whites claimed "oh blacks have the exact same facilities, they're just separate"?

And isn't it also saying that even though according to Christian belief everyone is a "sinner", some sinners are better than others and therefore deserve more rights?

I think that this happens because most christians who have strong beliefs always state their belief VERY STRONGLY and ppl feel like you are judging them when you are only stating your beliefs. In most cases, from personal experience, whenever I go to church and talk about homosexuality with missionaries or any other religious people, they somehow twist it in a way where they are totally against it and don't believe its correct. It's a sin, blah blah blah. As you can see, many gay ppl think you are judging them because of the tone you may use or if you say more than you should.

I don't feel slighted. I am getting tired of all "you" so-called Christians telling me what to do and why I'm going to "your" hell. Blah, blah, blah. A majority of Christians only know how to judge. You must have your head in the sand.

There really is nothing to debate. Hate is hate. I'm agnostic and gay. Not really a debate, is it? Don't think that just because you have been "persecuted" that we really have anything in common. Not everyone is a victim. I am empowered to live my life without excuses. By your question, you have seriously shed many doubts on your sincerity.

The thing is so many "Christians" have come out bashing us (not 'disagreeing' but straight up bashing us).

Christians, at least for me, have gone from good honest people to gay bashers in my view.

I live a live and let live philosophy. What others do or don't do does not interest me. Never has... but when I (meaning me personally or my gay "family") am mistreated because of someone ELSE'S religion, well, that I will not tolerate.

I'm completely open to debate so long as it's respectful... on both sides of the issue.

I believe that due to some Christians not living by the don't judge rule have already made the wrong impression. So now, it gets taken out on all Christians. Everyone just needs to forget race, color, height, size, and the PAST conflicts between groups and start anew.

Hitler was a Christian who persecuted jews, gays, poles.

You have a good role model. To be honest, I'm surprised that religion is still around after all the hate, violence, war, and persecution that has resulted from it.

From all religions, actually.

Religion justify's hate - especially towards gays and jews. It's a shame.

You should read Mein Kampf.

God Bless you my kind, friendly Christian friend! Keep filling this world with love, compassion, and decent integrity like a good Christian man!
