Any linear (one dimensional) measurement can be extended to an area (two dimensional) measurement.
Square inches, square feet, square yards, square miles, square millimeters, square centimeters, square decimeters, square meters, square kilometers, square lightyears, etc.
There are standard area measures like acre, hectare, etc.

Do you mean 1 sq. ft = 12 X 12 sq. inches etc?
