It's certainly not an act of god. As for a failure of capitalism? Well that depends if you think it is a failure to keep food prices high to extract greater profits by restricting the amount of available grain. I'm sure capitalists would say that this practice is good business. I would say it is extortion, but that's capitalism for ya!!

~It is not a shortage problem, it is a distribution problem but, as with all things agricultural, mother nature tends to have some impact on the crop. As to the failure of capitalism, why do the US and Canada always have such huge surpluses? One would not expect US growers to do quite so well on Saharan and sub-Saharan farms. I suppose you could attribute drought, floods and crop failures to an act of god if you chose to worship such a sadistic deity, but that is what the mythology was created for in the first place: keeping folks scared and in line.

People fail not ideals.
Try natural changes (climate), war, greed for power etc.
These are not acts of God or specific to capitalism and as more than half the world is not capitalist but has different systems people might suspect you of being a marxist.
