Try doodling and make funny drawings. Take notes to keep busy. Or, make a "to do" list for yourself. Plan your finances. Do personal stuff on the paper in front of you.

I try to take notes, however, I am actually drawing pictures of the lecturer.
You can make notes for yourself: a grocery list, a "to-do" list, things like that.
Other suggestions: A Christmas card list (I know, way ahead of the schedule!) A Christmas present wish list, etc.
