Women cannot be denied the right to vote.

~In case you are having the same difficulty with the simple language of the amendment as Kerry and Yup seem to be having, the amendment did not say women had the right to vote. It says that the right to vote of a CITIZEN would not be denied on the basis of sex. This gave female citizens the right to vote, but it also guaranteed that a majority of women could not pass legislation to prohibit male citizens from voting. It did not confer universal suffrage, however.

In 1924, the Indian Citizenship was signed into law by Calvin Coolidge. This gave citizenship to American Indians and conferred voting rights on them, male and female.

Finally, with ratification (due in no small part to pressure exerted by the Soviet Union) of Amendment XXIII in 1961, male and female citizens in Washington DC were granted the right to vote in federal elections and 10 years later, Amendment XXVI lowered the voting age for all to 18.

It's your constitution. Read it sometime. Interesting stuff.

Here it is. I think it is already as simple as it can be:

Amendment 19 - Women's Suffrage. Ratified 8/18/1920. History

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.

Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

It says women can vote.
