Yes mice are probably smarter than dogs. Dogs are smart but they take a while to teach while mice can learn things in 1 day they are kind, gentle creatures.

Mice can make good pets and are relatively easy to care for. They are very intelligent and fun to watch. I think of mice like "fuzzy fish" - meaning they are very social so you should ideally have at least a same sex pair.
It's possible to house a small group of mice in an aquarium, but I'd advise getting all females, as the males have a wicked odor to their urine and a group of males will fight as well.
Personally, if you are looking at a rodent as a pet, I'd go for a pet rat. They are larger and more interactive than a mouse and they truly do bond with their human. It's true that you will need a larger cage (rats are social too and you'll do best to have a same sex pair) but having had both rats and mice, I found the rats to be more fun.
I have had great mice, but they still seem to prefer hanging out in their mouse group, doing mouse things. Rats on the other hand thrive on being with their person. My rats ride around on my shoulders, come to work with me (they have a cage in my office) and are a true part of the family.
Care for mice is pretty simple. A good, clean environment to live in, a healthy diet and lots of stimulation. It's best to get them young so you can socialize them.
The AFRMA website has some good general information...

The care for rodents is rather simple. However if you are really looking for a nice pet, I would try a rat. The care is about the same (other than needing a larger cage) but the reward is far greater. Not to mention if your mouse gets out you will never find it.
I have owned many rats in my days and several mice and they make wonderful pets, however rats take the cake. They are extremely smart and love to learn and be around their owner.
Mice are nice, but rats are far greater.

They're pretty easy to take care of. They don't need a whole lot of room to live in, but there are plenty of things you can get at the pet store that will give them variety to play with. They're a lot of fun. They're pretty easy to keep clean, just need food and water. The food is nothing special, so you can get it at any pet store, even small ones. I don't necessarily remember how smart they are, I was pretty little when I had my two mice. My favorite rodent that I've ever had was a rat though - self-sufficient and incredibly smart with personality out the wazoo!

No they are very easy and great pets for kids. They are tame and cute. The only problem is they smell really bad so you need to clean the cage weekly. The whole thing!!!! We kept them in a big pastic, clear storage container, with holes drilled in the lid. It's a great home. Very secure and easy to clean. We would just hose it out, dry it, put down clean paper and all done. We had a special mouse house at first and they got out through the cage. The only thing is they only live at most 2 years. My girls were shattered when they died!. If you dont want a smelly rodent get a rat. Apparently they are a great pet. They are very smart and dont smell. I just could never bring myself to own one!!!

A mouse would be a very great pet, if people in your family aren't afraid of them. They are easy to take care of, and fun to play with! But a better choice would be a rat. Yes, people say their ugly, but most rats are actually very cute and loving! Rats are super-easy to take care of, they only require cage cleaning once a week, which only takes about 10-15 miuntes. They are also VERY loving, and their awesome to play with! But either is good, good luck!

Mice are not that hard to take care of they are cute but they are great at escaping. They can try to escaoe anything so just make sure your cage is safe enough and escape proof. Other then that Mice are fun, cheap, and adorable pets.. Good Luck!

i've had 4 pet mice over the years.. Mocha, Mocha Guava, Mouseferatu, and Sociopath. Both mochas (who were plain white mice) were really great pets. The other 2 (gray fancy mice) were nice but they seemed to be more of a handfull. You have to clean their cage very often, i would suggest twice a week. Be careful what you use for bedding, i had paper (Carefresh brand) bedding and it made one of them get mites, he had to keep going to the vets for shots. it was really sad. Check with a vet before you get them, you want to make sure if they do get sick, that your vet treats mice. Best Of Luck

I have pet domestic rats & they are very smart, lovable, smart & clean. They use a kitty litter pan inside their cage. But they only live 2-3 years.
