I am the worst at chemistry and i was wondering if anyone could help me out w/ hw. I really do want to understand this so if u could explain how u did it that would be great.Thanks!!

68. Assign oxidation states for all atoms in each of the following compounds.

a. UO2 (charge is +2)
b. As2O3
C.NaBiO3
d. As4
e. HAsO2

I am trying thats why i'm asking for an explanation. Trust me i'm not being lazy i'm just really confused and need some help. If i could get rid of this class i would.

okay, so you need to sum the charges so that they equal the charge of the entire compound

know that oxygen is usually has a -2 oxidation state
hydrogen and sodium both have +1 oxidation states
these can be found from the periodic table
common oxidation states
group 1 = +1
group 2 = +2
group 3 = +3

group 5 = -3
group 6 = -2
group 7 = -1

so
a)
UO2 = +2
1(U) + 2(-2) = +2, solve for U

continue this process for the rest of the compounds

why would you do chemistry if you are the worst ? talk to your counselor about alternate classes .
