Excellant question. Now I wish there was an excellant answer.

We as Americans are asked to send our money everywhere and if we don't we're the Ugly American. Yet right here in our own country and children who are as needy if not needier than those abroad.

We need to draw the line and take care of our own first.

I am climbing off my soap box now.

Don't take it personally. You have the choice whether or not to support needy children in other countries. There is a saying the "Charity begins at home", which could mean you home country, neighborhood, household, or however you choose to view it. Ultimately, the decision of where you give is up to you, just give. Even if it's just $1.00 at a time.

Who asked you to give money to children in another country? If you talking about the commercials, then they are not asking a lot. Giving 30 cents a week or something isn't asking a whole lot.

And those commercials are not asking you to stop trying to help the children in your own country. They just want you to help those in others as well

Can't you help both?

The needy and the poor need help wherever they are. If you'd rather just give to children in your own country, then just do that.

Charity begins at home, after all.

Perhaps it is merely the pure volume of children in other countries that make the plea so insistent. Or possibly many people don't like to think about American children going to bed hungry or and often are without medical care. Many in our society is blind to many of the social discrepancies. It is sort of a don't see don't know policy.

Then help the children here at home. Find local charities devoted to children. Be a mentor. Volunteer with children. Donate to children's causes. You can choose who to support.

There are plenty of local charities that need your money and, more importantly, your time.
