I would ask them why. Are they wanting to rent the place to you? Are they wanting to offer you a place to live until they feel like selling the place or moving themself in? The bottom line is they are bound to want to realise their assets sooner or later and you need to make sure you are not in a weak position when that occurs. Obviously the longer you live in a place the more 'squatters' rights you have, but for both you and the owner of the deeds' sakes get things drawn up legally now so you both know where you stand - no dispute! No nastiness!

An offer implies terms of ownership. a house without a deed is not offered, it is sold.

No. I wouldn't. Because there's always the chance that they can take it back from you and you would have no evidence that says you can live there. They could say that you were trespassing and had broken in. Then everything you own in the house would legally belong to them because you couldn't prove it was yours because you couldn't prove the house is yours.
