Seriously....some of the most vehement supporters of 'freeing the Iraqi people' advocate the scaling back of US citizens freedoms.
Just wondering what you think.

It's not unusual for freedoms to be curtailed durring wartime, in WWII for instance, there was considerable censorship, Haebeus Corpus was suspended by Lincoln durring the Civil War, and so forth.

That's OK when dealing with a relatively short, declared war. When dealing with a very long psuedo-war, like the Cold War turned out to be, and the 'War on Terror' certainly could become, it's important to avoid ceding rights that might not be re-gained for decades, if ever. Fairly early in the Cold War, the McCarthy Hearings marked a turning point, beyond which the American people proved unwilling to cede thier freedoms just to help fight the nebulous communist threat. Perhaps some similar watershed will occur with the War on Terror?

It's the mystery of the conservatives. Nobody really knows and cheney's not talking.

Besides, Republicans don't use libraries anyway and after Iraq, it's not like they have any friends overseas to call.
