I respect people who earn my respect. I teach my nephews the same.
Do I show kindness to an elderly person who is having trouble getting their packages to their car? Sure, but that is kindness.

To tell you the truth, it depends. I respect anyone that respects me. However there are many different definitions for respect. One is "to have admiration for". In that case I have respect for people that are younger than me, also.
