My teacher tells me that America citizens will vote 51st state of America is Puerto Rico next year.
Before America citizens veto Puerto Rico from became 51st state after 51% said no and 49% said yes.
Now what do you think about that as PR will become state of America.

Given that the Popular Democratic Party wishes to maintain Puerto Rico's commonwealth status and has won every referendum held on the subject since Puerto Rico became a US colony, statehood is unlikely. The majority of Puerto Ricans don't want it and the 7 - 10 percent who want independence could turn the island into Northern Ireland West if it happened. Although they can't vote at home in national elections and have no voting member in congress, Puerto Ricans are US citizens. What the balance of the the citizenry thinks or wants is totally irrelevant. The choice is for the Puerto Ricans to make and they have steadfastly refused statehood for 108 years. They beat Oklahoma's record of 104 year of territorial status a few years ago.

Im not sure. In a way i hope it happen and in another i hope it doesn't. I want it too because then it would be apart of America and all that good stuff but then i don't it too because America might start taking bits and peices of the Puerto Rican culture away and try to make it more Americanize.
But maybe it will become the 51st state.

Puerto Rico is a nation, also the congress would never accept a fully spanish latin american nation as a state.

I do not believe that Puerto Rico should become our 51st state; however, I do believe they benefit currently with their present status.

Well, considering that the Puerto Rican people have voted not to become a part of America twice already, it would make sense that they would do it again. My answer: no.

I think that it is a possibility but people in PR dont really want to be a state in the US. they like the freedom of being a US teritory, with out the worries of having to deal with the governmental issues being a state.

Puerto Rico will never be a state. They are their own country, not ours. We don't conquer other territories anymore...not for over a 100 years. Don't count on it happening.

We already loose a lot of money on Peurto Rico with welfare and social programs. Peurto Ricans can come to the US as they please and everything so it really doesnt make a difference.
Its about half and half in Peurto Rico, half want to be a state, half want to be an independant country. (They are neither now)
