Hamsters run on the wheel all night because that is there way of excercising. Hamsters sleep majority or the day and they are active in the night. Hamsters don't like to be messed with when they are sleeping the best time is when they are up and active.

Hamsters are nocturnal, which means they are active during the night. When i had mines, I actually would leave a light on to prevent tem from running all night. i also closed the shades during the day to make it dark for them. It worked half of the times.

interior the wild hamsters could return and forth as much as eight miles a night on those little legs of theirs in seek of food, so hamsters that are domesticated are basically taking part in out an instinct this is outfitted into them. yet definite, your precise, you may think of that they could know they are not getting everywhere quickly! Hamsters diets may be particularly extreme in fat to as they love sunflower seeds, hazlenuts, monkey nuts etc, and being in a cage all day could reason weight problems in hamsters so its fairly a fashion for them to kep healthful too. Me and my husband have had our male hamster a year, and he's not any ones fool. He has by no skill performed on his wheel the completed time we've had him, so we could desire to be sure he comes out of the cage a minimum of an hour every day to exercising.

They're nocturnal, which means they are awake and energetic during the night time. Since you're asleep and they're not allowed out of their cage during this time, they release their energy by running on their wheel. (At least your hamster isn't chewing on the cage instead!)

Because they are bored and need something else to do like running in a maze , hamsters like to dig, and climb , and chew , you can now buy those hamster homes with lots of different levels to stop them becoming bored.

because in the wild, hamsters will travel up to 5 miles a night in search of food so they have a lot of energy to burn off.

My theory is that they think they will get somewhere else?? Note how they run, stop, smell and keep repeating this motion. Try dropping something in the area he sniffs when he stops, and my guess is he will stop running thinking he has found a new area??
i should have added their eyesight is not good!!
