I was told by my son's pediatrician that by the time they can crawl, or roll over really well - that they are "out of the woods" for SIDS. Just be careful not to put too many blankets, toys, and stuff he can roll over onto that might limit his oxygen. One blanket is good enough.

If he is able to lift his head and roll over, then he is able to sleep on his stomach. The risk of sids goes down significantly after 6 months. I wish my son would have slept on his back. He wouldn't do it and I was always terrified that I would wake up and he would be dead, but he never was, thank God. He slept on his stomach from birth and still does (he is 2 1/2 now).

I know why you are worried and I was too. My daughter rolls on her stomach to sleep with her butt in the air. Go figure. I always put her to sleep on her back and leave only one blanket in there. If he is crawling and can lift his head and control the movement you should have no problems. I can't wait until my daughter is a year old and I don't have to worry about the threat of SIDS anymore. Good luck to you.

As long as they can roll from belly to back then you can let them pick their sleeping position. You should still put them on their back to start but you don't have to turn them back over. And if he sleeps with his face directly down into the mattress try not to freak out. I let my son do that and it only took a week before he stopped, however the moms I know that roll their baby over everytime that happens end up doing it for months.

No worries. If you are a child of the 70's, you know that all doctors back then told our parents to put us on our tummies from birth on. If your little man can roll from front to back and lift his head, he is good to go! Let him sleep!

My son is also 9 months old and sleeps on his stomach. The prediatrician said as soon as they are able to roll over by themselves it is ok for them to sleep on their stomachs

He's moving so he's ok. I put my daughter on her tummy after she could move her head and roll a little bit. She's been sleeping on her tummy ever since. He's choosing to sleep like that, so far be it from you to be able to keep him on his back right??

Your son is fine. They just do not allow babies who do not not know how to turn over themselves sleep on their stomachs. Have a good day!

He's ok! If he can roll onto his stomach, he can roll back. My pediatrician told me to still put my daughter down on her back, but let her be if she rolls over.

Yeah I think that as long as he can carry his own weight then he will be ok. Just make sure that he is on a firm surface.
