Well If you talk war in general,i think Human mind is the most used weapon..
If you talk about first and second world war, during the first world war, machine gun accounted for most deaths, and a huge share of deaths in the second world war went to machine gun too
so i think if you talk about the two world wars, its probably machine gun or sub types...

Over the course of all history, probably the spear in its various forms. The sword probably would be a close second, followed by the rifle.
The rifle is certainly the most used in the last century or two, but humans have been waging war for thousands of years, so the rifle just hasn't be around long enough to be a the top of the list.

WWI & WWII, rifles.
All wars in general, the spear. Whether a sharpened stick in Stone Age times, to the Macedonian sarissa, a medieval knight's lance, a Swiss pike, or a musket or rifle with a fixed bayonet, the spear is the single most prominent and enduring weapon in the history of mankind.

The most used weapon in the war is the mind. Mentally fighting the reality of possibly confronting death is almost equivalent of driving a car with no brakes. There may be times of coasting, but when it's time to go downhill there are rarely many survivors.

Rifles were the most widely used weapon in both wars. Machine guns accounted for the largest share of deaths in World War I. I'm not sure about WWII.

Clubs would be the most used wepon in war, followed by spears and knives
If your wondering how this reflects on Modern Warfare.
The end of your rifle (club), or entrenching tool (known as a spade) is a brilliant club.
Spear, Rifle and Bayonet
Knives, what is a Bayonet?
Hand to Hand combat is still very much alive and trained in all the armed forces.

Ask any General, any Officer, any Noncom, and all will tell you it is the men under them. Any man willing to fight will use whatever is handy as a weapon. And that means that they will even fight down to their bare hands, feet, and teeth if they need to and that is all they have left. A rifle, machine gun, a plane, or an atom bomb is useless without a man (or woman) to pull the trigger. Think a minute. If you saw that recent movie "The 300", you saw the meanest SOB on this planet.

The bow and arrow, it had been used for centuries, from ancient egypt, the greek/persian wars and right up to about the 14th or 15th Century until the musket was in common use

Logistics and propaganda are the most important weapons in war. without propaganda you won't be able to keep the young men wanting to die for no reason and logistics because as Napoleon said an army marches on its stomach
