Which countries? Each country is dominated by different ones - Saudis = mostly Sunnis, Iraq/Iran = Shites
Don't ask the head of the Senate intelligence committee these sorts of questions, the dem wouldn't know.

Overall, there are more Sunnis in the Middle East. Iraq and Iran are the only two countries where Shiites are the majority.

Overall, there are more Sunnis, but, Shiites hold a majority in some countries, including Iraq and (IIRC) Lebanon. Iran is also majority-shiite, but it's Persian, rather than Arab.

I would say yes and divide the way the person above me did.
But from my time in living in many Middle Eastern countries I think it is more of a class issue as well.
For reasons I don't fully understand, Sunnis tend to be of a higher economic class than Shiites...but I don't know.

Sunnis far outnumber the Shias...esp. in Arab countries. On the other hand, Iran is among the predominantly Shia state, but its not an Arab country...its a Persian homeland.
