swamp coolers! it brings back the time i lived in nevada. i thought swamp coolers always worked best if at least one window was cracked a bit. i was told it helps to draw a current. plus not to make the house smell musty. my guess is do whatever makes your house cool.

Yes. You have to open all the windows just enough to allow the quantity of air being blown in to exit. When you don't here any "wooshing " noise, it's balanced. If you don't, the cool air will not pass through the house.

perchance some type of mesh netting. type of like those shipment nets for suvs. It relies upon what you want to connect the barrier to (metallic, timber, plastic, etc.) you may want to attempt heavy duty staples, electric powered tape, metallic clips, even screws. you may want to easily favor to be particular that the cats couldn't squeeze through the aspects of the mesh, so connect it on your window fairly nicely (perchance through putting a staple or screw in each 2 or 3 inches.)
