Today my cable man told me that my cable modem and my wireless router should not be placed within close proximity of one another because they "broadcast at the same frequency."

I told him that the modem doesn't broadcast anything as it receives its signal from a land line. He still claims that they interfere with one another. I say they do not interfere with one another.

Who is right? Thanks for your help.

You and your cable man is half right. Your modem and router transmit an electromagnetic filed (EMI) that could cause interference with each other. The majority of cable modem and router are pretty well shielded so this won't be a problem unless you have a very old unknown brand router and/or modem.

You are right. The cable modem does not broadcast any signals. However if you have cellphones, cordless phones those could interfere with your signal if they are close to the broadcasting frequency of your wireless router.

I have the same. My internet connection goes out through the Ethernet (RJ-45) and in to the wireless router. My wireless router has several RJ-45 out ports as well as wireless of course. I have my desktop connected to it, my network printer connected to it and 2 lap tops wirelessly connected. So the connection goes from the wall to the cable modem, to the wireless router.

You are definitely right. I have a cable modem right on top of my Netgear wireless router with no problems. I have no idea what your cable guy was talking about.

I usually have mine stacked on top of each other. No problem here, but potentially it could cause issue with some devices. I think you are right however.
