Two numbers added together makes 1000
Let one of the numbers be x.
Then the other number is x+150.
So x+ [x+150]=1000
That is 2x + 150 = 1000
So 2x = 1000 -150 = 850
i.e. x = 850 divided by 2 = 425.
So x =425 and [x + 150] = 425 + 150 = 575.
[ Check: 425 + 575 = 1000.
Try this method with any two numbers you think of. Does this help?

This sounds like an algebra problem. Kinda advanced for an 11-year-old. =P
I can't come up with a non-algebraic way to explain it, so just do your best to follow.
T is greater than F by 150 can be turned into the equation
T = F + 150
So now you know what T is. (Just play along for a minute)
So take the equation T + F = 1000 and put (F + 150) in where T is. This is called substitution.
Now the equation is (F + 150) + F = 1000. Because of the way algebra works, we can subtract 150 from both sides of the = sign. That leaves us with the equation
F + F = 1000 - 150
F + F = 850
Now you can just divide 850 in half to get 425.
Now you know that F = 425. We're almost done. =]
T + F = 1000, but we know that F = 425, so
T + 425 = 1000
T = 1000 - 425
T = 575
So now I've given you a looonng explanation that leads to the conclusion: T = 575 and F = 425
Hope I helped!

I've seen some of the other answers, and it frightens me.
Subtract the 150 from the 1000 to get 850.
Divide the 850 by 2 (The two letters T & F) to get 2 lots of 425
Add the 150 to one of the 425's to get 575, the value of T
The other 425 is the value of F.
So, T = 575 and F = 425
I can see how it could cause problems. But I am actually a genius.

Use EQUATIONS (A demonstration of ALGEBRA in Action)
F + T = 1000
But we are told that T - F = 150
So T must be equal to 150 + F
Substitute in your original Equation
So
F + {150 + F} = 1000
Collect Terms
2F = 1000 - 150
2F = 850
F = 425
Substitute back in Original Equation
T + 425 = 1000
T = 575
So the answer is
T = 575 and F = 425

OK, let's divide 1000 and 150 by 2. That equals 500 and 75.
Now, minus 75 from 500.
Add 75 and 500.
This equals 425 and 575. If you check, there should be a difference of 150 between them.
This is the standard thing you do for consecutive numbers and the suchlike ;)
Hope this helps!

T + F = 1000 ~(1)
T - F = 150~(2)
Add (1) and (2), you get:
2T = 1150
Therefore, T = 575
F = 575 - 150 = 425

Given:
T + F = 1000
F + 150 = T
Therefore:
(F + 150) + F = 1000
150 + 2F = 1000
2F = 1000 -150
2F = 850
F = 425
and
T = 425 + 150
T = 575

T + F = 1000
T = F + 150
F + (F + 150) = 1000
2F + 150 = 1000
2F = 1000 - 150
2F = 850
F = 850 / 2
F = 425
T = 425 + 150
T = 575
