Movie name where robots pursue the hero(es), catch them but back off because the hunt has gone over budget?

I use this when talking about the differences between men and machines - no human would back off at the kill for the sake of a few more pounds/dollars! Can't remember the film title though...

THX-1138, from 1971. George Lucas wrote and directed it. It was a very good film.
