My best friend of 12 years is having a birthday this weekend, and also graduating from college. He's asked for money to pay of fhis loans, etc. We usually don't exchange expensive gifts, for my birthday last year I mostly got inexpensive gag gifts from him. I'm a broke college student myself, you think $25 is enough? I don't wanna look cheap, I make more money than he does but I also have a lot more expenses...

$20 is reasonable and a nice card. It really is the thought that counts. Plus $20 to you is like $2,000 to his rich uncle.

give what you can afford to comfortably.a gift from the heart means more.your friend knows you are not rich but being a friend is more than about money .your presence and happy wishes mean more.$ 25 and a nice thoughtful card is a great gift! go and have a great time this means far more than money.also other people will be giving him gifts so it all adds up.good luck.

Well i don't know how much you should give him, but maybe you should make him a collage of you two and fun times you guys had, and then maybe put in $25 dollars and a card saying that he means so much to you for being a good friend all those years.

25 is not bad.....get creative! ebay, craigslist, ten thousand villages etc have unique gift items for around 25-30 bucks.

also - how about getting together with a bunch of his family & friends to put money together and give him something expensive/relevant rather than tons of silly gifts.

it's not how much you spend it's the thought behind the gift .. a gift should never be money among friends take the time to find a gift that will mean something
