I know this sounds wierd, it sounded that way to me too when I was first told to Go buy some Nutra Sweet. It was originally designed to be an Ant Killer. When there was no market for it, they re-packaged it and hit the market as an artificial sweetner.
Put it around, they take it back to the nest and it will kill them for about 9 months (until the new eggs hatch)
Safer for inside the house too... much better then spray.
I cant remember which site talked about it, these are two I had sent to me ... GL!

I would not worry too much about ants in the garden unless they are fire ants or they are in very large numbers. We had red ants (aka harvester ants) where I grew up. The worst thing about them is getting bit, however, we never worried about them hurting the gardens any. In fact, we left them alone with the idea that they might keep some insects under control.

I don't think ants eat very many veggies but if they do after you plant your garden when and if they do eat it then put a bowl of sugar water out for them they will eat that instead because they are very sugar centric.

Try spraying it with soapy water. My mother-in-law has a green house and said it works. Good luck!
