The answer is "1988". "M"= 1,000, "CM"= 900 (1000-100), "L"=50, Each "X"=10, "V"=5 and each "I" =1. So the total is: 1000+900+50+10+10+10+5+1+1+1=1988.

You WROTE IT in Roman Numerals, genius.

So, LXXXVIII.

Or, 88 would work as well, if you wanted Arabic numbers.

it's 1,988

M - 1000
C - 1000
L - 50
X - 10
V - 5
l - 1

so, in the given number in your question

{M = 1000}
{CM = C -100, M - 1000; 100 is less than 1000 and C comes before M,so you subtract 100 from 1000, giving you 900}

{L = 50}
{XXX = 30}
{VIII = 8}

and as a result, you get 1988.
