These 2 programs can help you clean your registry for free. I personally like CCleaner because it does more than just clean my registry.
1) Eusing Free Registry Cleaner is a free registry repair software that allows you to safely clean and repair registry problems.
2) CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. CCleaner also fixes your registry. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware.

Well Ccleaner is registry cleaner and its free but it doesn’t fix major issues. However for the most part if you just need a quick clean it will do the job. However, if you want some deep cleaning that going to free up a lot resources you may have to invest in a good one.
The best thing choose one with a lot of user support and will perform defragging and will not interfere with other software. Like the reader before said its is OS specific. If you are using XP or earlier there a a lot of good choices. Regsweep, XP repair Pro or Error doctor. If you are using VISTA, you may want to just use their repair tools. Do a scan an see which one digs deeper. At any rate. I hope this helps….

in case you do not have an understanding of ways the registry works, perfect now to not use any registry cleaners, as they could do more advantageous damage then sturdy in case you don't be conscious of what that's doing. The registry is basicly how the laptop purposes, if something receives tousled interior the registry your laptop receives mistakes, blue exhibit screen mistakes and under no circumstances artwork properly.

Run RegScrubXP weekly. Run Cleanup every time you log off.
Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?d...
Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.

I use JV16 powertools, it's good & it can be set to create backups of anything it removes just in case, it isn't free but if you buy it now you get a free upgrade/update to the 2007 version is from what I've read about it will have major improvements.
Cost is $29.95 USD, at the exchange rate it'll probably be around £15 - £20, no doubt the cost for the 2007 version will be much higher. It will be released Q2 - so it'll be soon.

I like Abexo free registry cleaner. Try www.download.com and search for Abexo. This program will back up your current registry and will show you the path where it saved the backup. Reboot your PC after cleaning. If for any reason you have problem open windows explorer, go to the backup file and double click on the latest file.

I have run a lot of the registry cleaners. Just be aware that sometimes they erase needed entries, so be very careful of what's being deleted and make a backup copy before you start!
