Yes, you can do it now if you want it done but remember you have the option of not getting it done. Many women (Im one) are not even having the test done b/c if the test comes back that you have a "chance" you will stress and worry-maybe for nothing. Who really needs this added stress in pregnancy? If you would not abort the baby just b/c it has downs or something wrong you may want to ask yourself if you should even have the test done.
good luck

Between the 15th and 20th weeks of pregnancy. But remember it is not always accurate so a positive result does not necessarly mean that the fetus has certain birth defects, including neural tube defects (like spina bifida) and chromosomal abnormalities (like Down syndrome) this is not a test you MUST do you can refuse it. But if there is a history on either side of the family with birth defects or chromosomal abnormalities its suggested you have it done. I didnt have it done with my first child who I had at 22 but I did have it done with my second child when I was pregnant at age 35 ONLY because I had heard so many times that women 35 and over are at higher risk so I did it to put my mind at ease. And I requested the test my dr asked me "will the results change how you feel about the pregnancy" my answer was no..Think about it.....

Yes, the test can be done anytime after 15 weeks so you could go anytime before your next appointment on May 17th.
