I got an email claiming i was left 400,000 + i thought it sounded like a scam.. it i got curious. I always ignore emails BUT this one mention a couple things that were true'.
it came from:

The Chambers of Richard Ferguson QC,
Carmelite Chambers
(Advocate & Solicitors)
#9 Carmelite Street,
London EC4Y 0DR,
London , Uk.

I got curious since it mention that i had been left money' to do a certain business ( which i had previously been involved in )

First i checked out the website of this firm.
Then called the office, the person answering says she's not sure why the deceased willed money to me or even knew me personally other than a newspaper article or he owned a copy of my book - shes not sure.

Anyone ever heard of this deal. ?

Why would they have your email address and not your home address or phone number? That spells S C A M to me.

Does the UK have some kind of legal association equivalent to the US BAR Association - you can check out this firm through the org.? I would hire my own lawyer to check into it.

I think I'd call them again and ask them to fax a copy of the Death Certificate and a copy of the Will. It may well be legit. DO NOT SEND THEM MONEY or any of your personal information. Do not accept wired funds, a check will do nicely. All expenses should be paid by the estate or deducted from your check beforehand, do not rebate them anything.

You weren't specific on what kind of business you are asked to perform. Is it the kind of thing that just isn't found in a Will?
Are we talking about you performing a charitable work, or making a sculpture, singing a song, teaching the blind to read braille, or what?

THIS IS A SCAM! I promise you that if you were getting a large sum of money someone would write you a letter or call you on the telephone if you were recieving that amount of money. DO NOT send any personal info. This has happened to me before.

This is just another scam. If you think logically about it, you would easily recognize it as such. Why would they contact YOU specifically.

Anyway, check this website from the BBB:

Contact them and ask them to mail you the information, so you can show it to your lawyer. Rather you have one or not.
If it's fake they'll hang up, if it's legit, they will mail you papers.
