I agree.
First of all this is why San Antonio will beat the Suns
-are deep, almost everyone on their team except maybe elson, and vaughn are proven veterens like horry, barry, bowen, finley. They can do anything on offence. 3 pointers: Ginobli, Barry, Horry, Bowen, Finley. Penentration: Ginobli, Parker. Post: TIm Duncan. And almost everyone on their team can hit the mid range jumper.
-their defence is too good, as you can see. Bowen/Duncan were 2/3 in defensive man of the year award. They have not let Melo and Iverson get too out of control
-thier players are rested, Duncan played 34 minutes, Parker 33 and Ginobli 27. Other teams play their bigs like 39, 40 minutes a game, but popovich rests his players.
-The spurs wear you down and Phoenix is not deep. Yes they have a great starting five, but after that other then barbosa, jones who else is there? Phoenix cannot control the tempo against the spurs
WHen great teams play home court does not matter as shown last year between mavs and spurs

Your question almost implies that the Mavs had a chance of winning it all. I just haven't seen that happening. That being said, my answer:
I agree that the contenders include Phoenix and San Antonio, but I still think anything can happen in the East. The Cavs are coming off a strong season ending and are going to be very well rested for what I think will be another very short series with the Nets. The Bullls are very strong right now, and I think they are going to thoroughly test Detroit to a 6+ game series. I expect Detroit to win that series, but I expect them to be exhausted. Not only that, but they aren't exactly dominant at home. I expect a Cavs/Pistons finals match-up to be 6+ games. I give Lebron and friends the edge in the East finals just because they will be able to endure a long series better, and I think that they match up well in other areas of the game.
Unfortunately, I also see the a Phoenix/San Antonio West final. I'm a huge Phoenix fan, and it's pretty difficult to fault the Spurs. It's just that the Spurs take all of what I love about Phoenix out of their game. They slow everything down, play very by-the-book basketball, and nobody is stunned by zippy passing, giant dunks, or much of any flare at all. Bummer for the viewers, great for Dr. Popovich. I see Phoenix coming out on top here on what I expect to be another long finals series only because they're playing their game extremely well right now. I see the x-factor in the match-up being Bruce Bowen. He just has a nearly mystical ability to frustrate ball-movers. He hasn't been much of a factor in their previous meetings, though. Phoenix is 1-2 against the Spurs in regular season games. However, the first game was without Amare, and that game still went to overtime. The Spurs have won when they were able to keep Phoenix players from scoring more than 20 points as well as keep Nash's assists low. I see the Spurs doing that, but not with enough consistency to keep Phoenix out of the NBA finals.
For some reason the NBA finals just hasn't seemed as exciting to talk about lately. However, if the matchup ends up being Cavs/Suns, I see the Suns mopping the floor with the Cavs. I would expect to see some monstrous scoring from LeBron, but the Suns will just plain overpower the Cavs - especially with home-court advantage. I'd expect the Suns to win that one in 5 games.
If Detroit is able to muster the energy to top the Cavs, I still see Phoenix winning the title, but I expect the final to be much less fun to watch, and the series would go 6+ games.
Phoenix wins the title, everybody argues about whether the MVP should be Stoudemire or Nash, and Shawn (My Man) Marion is still left as one of the most underrated basketball players in the league.

While I would like to see the Nuggets go in the West (and take on the Bulls), I think the Suns and the Pistons are still the teams to beat.
Spurs, if they make it past Denver, won't beat the Suns.
Eastern conference is going to have it's real show-down in the 2nd round with the Bulls and Pistons. The winner there is your Eastern Conference champ.
Suns vs Pistons goes to the Suns.
Suns vs Bulls, if the Bulls stay on their hot streak and don't lose momentum in the down time, Bulls shock Suns.

It is going to be the bulls vs. Suns and i am a bulls fan but the suns are going to win. They are complete at every position and even have depth thats good. They are a fast paced team that no one can keep up with and they are one of the most talented teams i have ever seen play.

I can understand that for you Dallas was the sure winner???
You was wrong.
Now, I can understand that The Warriors are not an option for you.
You are wrong again.
Finally accept that The Warriors will be the champions. Can you?
