I am 35 weeks pregnant and 3 days. I just went for my appt at the ob/gyn today and she checked me, told me that I am NOT dilated nor effaced yet. Does this mean that I am not going to have the baby for a long time? or could it happen sooner? Do I need to be dilated now?

this is my 2nd pregnancy and my first I was 3 weeks early.

Remember every pregnancy is different. I would say you still have a while if you weren't dialated at all. Has the baby dropped yet?

You never know when you will dilate. Sometimes it happens just a few days before birth, but for some women it happens gradually over the weeks preceding delivery.

So for you it could start to gradually happen in the last weeks, or you might find that right before labor starts you'll dilate fast. This happens a lot to second-time mothers.

No way to tell.

I was 4 cm and 50% effaced for several weeks before going into labor.

My doctor does not check until closer to 38 weeks as she believes it doesn't change when labor is going to come.

well i was dialated about 4 cm for god like a month i believe and like 75-80% effaced the whole time. so it just depends. when you go into labor maybe you will dialte really fast or you could have a slow labor which im hoping for your sake you dont. hopefully you start dialting soon and that you have a fast labor
