Are You Married, Engaged, or Single?

I have been married before and had 3 children with him. However, I happily divorced him many years ago. I am sort of engaged now. By sort of, I mean we have talked a lot about getting married and plan to eventually, but there is no engagement ring yet and no wedding date set yet. On July 31, 2007, we will celebrate 8 years since our first date.

No, we're not weirdos or anything. A lot of people think it is strange that we have dated so long and not gotten married yet. We have just been through too many obstacles when we did try to save up for nice rings, a nice wedding, and fabulous honeymoon. We have both faced injuries and health problems that have put us through surgeries and hospitalizations. We have both faced jobless situations that were beyond our control. (Like when his boss got killed in a car wreck one week before they were going into partnership so the business had to be dissolved after his death instead of my boyfriend getting to take over. The next of kin wanted to sell all the equipment and close the business, so there was nothing my boyfriend could do about it since they were not yet in partnership.)

Just think, though. With all the obstacles we have already faced together, including me almost dying due to a series of mini-strokes, I have no doubts our relationship will last. We have faced extremes of poverty together and many other hardships that usually make couples split up.

So to answer your question, I am not exactly married, engaged, or single. I am most definitely spoken for in a committed relationship in which we are already married in our hearts.
