Hi.. i'm sorry you're struggling, and i can see why you are, considering the lack of acceptance many people carry. I think the first thing i'd do if i were in your position is to accept your mom at face value -- look at her "disappointmen" as being about her, NOT about you. Because the fact is, it IS about her, her lack of open-mindedness. Some people can't open up to our differences. It's just the way they are. I call this "tunnel vision".... so many have it!! Thank God you and I don't! right? Hon, you can be whoever you want. I think that you can dress in a feminine way without being flamboyant. Be proud of yourself, your accomplishments, your sexuality, your openness, your sensitive nature. I think that you are very courageous for discussing your issue here, and taking measures to be a unique individual. It's a first step in the direction which is comfortable for you! God bless! signed, 54 yr old woman

If I had a daughter and some boy came to the house to pick her up with long hair and ear-rings in both ears he would have to leave with out her. one ear fine. Long hair that was clean and fixed ok but not both ears. Thank God I have a son and I his hair is short and his ears are not pierced.

As a mother of 4 teenagers, I feel qualified to answer this. The long hair is fine IF it's clean and out of your eyes. That's what I tell my boys and girls too for that matter. As for the earrings, I personally would hope you stopped at one per ear. Yes, I'm old-fashioned, but you did ask. I would not have trouble with my daughters dating a young man with long hair, as long as he takes good care of himself.

I honestly think I am different than most women. My fiance's brother has had long hair since he was 17 (he's now 19) and I haven't liked it AT ALL. Even my fiance (his brother) doesn't like it. He has no piercings, but his hair is around 3 inches past his shoulders. Long hair just doesn't do it for me, unless it's on myself! :o)
