Crying seems to be a common theme. What else?

Chick Flick in 5 easy steps --->

1. The girl has to be ridiculously cute, but also have some flaw, like she has to be clumsy or something along those lines so that she seems "real."
2. The boy in question is ridiculously cute as well, but all he does is irritate the girl in question.
3. They end up in a few awkward situations (often due to her oh so cute and endearing clumsiness). There is much laughing.
4. They lose each other somehow and (this part is CRUCIAL) she eats some ice cream straight out of the container. They both spend lots of time gazing out of car/taxicab/greyhound bus windows at the rain whilst sappy music plays in the background. There is much crying.
5. They find each other again. They realize that they are perfect for each other. There is much rejoicing.

---THE END---

Great question. There are a number of things I could list but here are the main ones.

1. Mostly female main characters.
2. Subject matter that 95% of the male population would have no interest in.
3. Some sort of emotional or tear-jerker storyline.
4. Any movie currently being seen on Lifetime or Oxygen.

Story being told from a womens perspective. A man is the focal point. Plot tends to be based on emotions as apposed to facts. Titanic for instance; The titanic played second fiddle to the woman and her being confused about love and money. If that was a dudes movie, it would have been all about the boat and the girl would have just been a sex scene.

Most start out with some sort of love/hate thing. Embarrassment and laughs ensue as one tries to avoid the other only to be more blatanly noticed. This eventually leads to some sort of ephiphany that hero/herioine is more like the other person than they once thought. One or both characters admits thier true feelings, the music swells and they kiss/get married, whatever.

See the movie: MARIE ANTOINETTE for a good example of a 'chick flick'.

The ingrediants of a chick flick are: unrealistic romantically inclined men; lots of dresses; lots of shoes; women are strong while men are passive; trivial non-sense becomes high drama; a skinny chick beats the hec out of a huge muscular thug; its O.K. for a married woman to have an affair; lots and lots of gossip and lots and lots of money to spend on themselves.

easy.

Lonely hot girl
Lonely hot girl meets hot rich/successful guy.
Hot guy cheats on her repeatedly, and the girl dumps him toward the end for an even hotter guy who is nice but broke...like an artist or something, and his character was there the whole time....and she can't believe she didn't see it before ! During the end scene he has to be getting ready to board an airplane or bus or train...and she just caught him in time...she had to remove her high heals to run after him through a subway or some tearjerky stunt like that..

boooohooooo !

a seriously, unrealistically pretty guy that falls in love with the wreck of a girl. this appeals to all our hopes that even though we aren't a size 2, and our hair can get frizzy, and we have no discernible personality, a gorgeous man will come sweep us off our feet and love us for who we really are. HAHAHAHAHA! bull****. see, this is why i stick to horror and action. everything else is crap.
