Hi, I have just purchased a Netgear RangeMax Next Wireless Router (WNR834M) and I'm having trouble setting it up. The first time I set it up, I tried a static ip and everything went through smoothly on the Wizard Assistant. However, I couldn't get access to the Internet. So I unplugged everything and put the Ethernet cable back into the modem. Internet came back. So I try and re-install it and when it comes to the step "Restarting Your Network", it keeps on saying "No Connection Found". I double-check all my wires and everything seems okay. This alert has come up everytime after the intial installation. This is where I need help. What should I do? Will clicking the "Restore Factory Default" button on the back of the router help? Should I just manually plug the wires in without the Wizard?

Thanks for the help!

Your Internet Service Provider supplies the IP address. You cannot just made one up. Use the DHCP function on the router to let the router get an IP address automatically from the modem. (This is the way you have your computer set to get an IP from the modem.)

Then you can have the router act as a server and hand out IP's for the computers (DHCP). If you going the use the wireless function this is the best way, or you can set the router to hand out fixed IP's based on the router's networking range.

If you don't want unauthorized people using your network be sure and set up security. Use either a WEP/WPA key and put that key in your computer(s).

Mate I had exactly the same problem the only way I got round it is using a second nic on the main pc. Feed the modem cables signal in through the the first nic and out to the router through the second. you then staticly assign 192.168.1.1 ip address to the router and assign .2 to the next pc on the wireless connection and .3 to the next etc. dont forget the dns server will have to be on the same one you are getting from your modem and the default gateway is the router. i spent hours trying to do this by the wizard on the router to no effect........ which is a particular pain in the butt as Im a network engineer by job and look after several thousand users and over 150 lwireless aps. and even i couldnt get it working. I am a telewest client and use a motarolla modem (ps I gather they are crap but hey they are free.).....ps always read y to learn so if you can find out a better way to do it please give me a call if not try my way. if you need any more details mail me.

good luck

"Broadband router" and "cable/dsl router" mean the same thing, since cable and dsl are two (of many) broadband methods. d-Link makes good products. I have 2 of their routers sitting right next to me (although I prefer Linksys, for reasons that have nothing to do with using their routers as routers). About the only changes I'd make to the recommendation are 1) think about getting a wireless router. (You can also connect to it by wires, but you have the option of using wireless.) and 2) shop around. Circuit city isn't bad, but someone else may have the same router for a lower price.

Were you trying to setup a static IP on the router? If so, unless you are paying your ISP for a static IP, that won't work.

You can set the router up to receive an IP form the ISP (DHCP) then you can set the router up to act as a DHCP server or you can assign static IPs to the computers connected to the router, IPs based on the network the router is using. 192.168.x.x

Try restarting the box which your router connects to. It may not be recognising your router. After box restarts, restart your router.
Also set a dynamic Ip address. Most likely your servise has dynamic ip's.
If that doesn't work, there are other options to try.
There may also be a toll free tech support number. They are usually very helpful.

First try going to start control panel and click on add/remove.
You want to be sure that you have it uninstalled.
Then go back through the steps.
This should work.
If not go on line too Netgear Router.com
and go to on line help.
They can walk you thorouhg it.
Hope this helps.
