If I was a millionaire and could pay through the butt for everything I need, then it would be hard for me to understand that the vast majority of society counts on government services and protection. Unless I was very well versed in the mechanics of the economy, I might not understand that the stability created by this society is what helped me amass all that wealth, maintain it, or make it grow.

Thank you Johnny 2 for proving my point. The wealthy are so friggin wealthy now that the bottom 80% makes like 15% of what the top 20% makes. And on top of that, they want to keep any money that goes to taxes. How greedy do they need to be?

Some poor people might think their taxes are too high because of social security, which is a flat tax on the first $90K or so of income. So for low income people, it can be higher than income taxes, and for higher income people, it can be an infintessimally small portion of their taxes.
Also, poor people might look at what they get for their taxes--sh itty schools for their kids, unsafe neighborhoods, jobs they can't make a living on, and no healthcare.
Even some very liberal people think we pay too much taxes--because we as people get so little in return.

Yes, most of the working poor will tell you that taxes are too high, including myself! And those who say we don't pay income tax are sadly misinformed! You have to make less than $10,000 a year to be counted as exempt for filing the fraudulent income tax! Also, the working poor don't qualify for any of the deductions and shelters that the wealthy can qualify for! And of course there are all the other taxes, and inflation decreases the spending power of whatever money we have left after all those taxes. I would like to see some of these rich people who complain about having to pay more in taxes, try to live on my income for a couple of years! Could be an eye opening experience! *sm*

I find it amusing but not surprising that you think we all depend upon the government for our existence. The government depends on the american people for its existence. The government has more than enough money to do what its people need it to do but it doesn't have the spine. People complain about jobs going over seas but they also complain that employers don't get taxed enough. You can't have your cake and eat it too there. When you don't create a suitable environment for employers in america, they will go somewhere else to make their money and then america misses out on the jobs and all of the TAX revenue from the employment and goods sold! Hence the reason Bushes tax cuts have invigorated the economy to an all time high and employment to an all time low even with illegal immigration driving down wages.

Im a poor eprson who is angry at how the State of Indiana has tricked the people in this state into a property tax hike!
They leased out our rodes and said we may not even need a taxs on our property at all, insted they increased property taxs.
What is worse they are going to send every one in the state a rebate check at the end of the year for a fraction of what the tax increase was.
This is to manipulate the poor who have no way to comprehend what they have done.
Those damn repukes I hate you guys I really hate you guys!

"Poor people" don't pay income taxes. The taxes they pay include payroll (assuming they have a job), sales (when applicable), and the hidden tax - inflation.
Regarding income taxes, the bottom half of this country pays 1% of the total income taxes.
The bottom 80% of this country pays less than 15% of all income taxes.
You can't just keep increasing taxes to pay for bloated spending programs. There comes an inflection point where increasing tax rates actually causes a decrease in tax revenues. Many economists believe that the US is beyond that point (See Laffer Curve)
When will people understand that the answer to our nation's deficit is less spending, not more taxes?!?

Yes, primarily by poor people who understand that the only cure for poverty is wealth and would like to create their own wealth without the government preventing said creation.

There are some very regressive taxes in our society, like sales taxes and social security, and, yes, the 'working poor' do complain about them.
