I always thought I spoke adequate English, I have a Liverpudlian/scouse accent and when I went to NY, I found myself repeating myself to many Americans...

Do Americans find certain British accents hard to understand...?

Perhaps you are using some words which, while being completely understood in Liverpool and elsewhere in the UK, might not be understood here in the U.S. because we use other words for the same things?

I, for one, have never found British accents that difficult to understand but there are plenty of "local" words that I would never get the meanings to unless someone explained them.

Some British accents are difficult for us to understand especially when speaking quickly.

I do not know all the differences in accents... but many Britt's seem to sound like they are mumbling... The Scotts and Irish are much more difficult to understand sometimes...
