Freeze the article of clothing (or just put it in the freezer long enough for the gum to freeze) and then remove the gum which should be hard and easier to remove after that.

Take an ice cube and rub the gum with it until it freezes. You should be able to scratch it off after that. You might have to do it several times before you get it all, but it should work nicely.
Oily substances such as peanut butter or cooking oil would work, but they would leave the clothing spotted with the oil residue, and that might not come out.

Warm vinegar in the microwave them pour on the gum. Wait a minute or two then gently scrape the gum off with a butter knife. Repeat. The key here is that the vinegar must be warm to hot.

Cut the whole piece off- gum, fabric and all. Then just patch it up with some plaid fabric. It will look so stylish, everyone will think you bought your shirt at JCrew, when in reality you know you got it for free with your purchase of a Big Gulp Slurpee at the 7-Eleven.

There is a spray made to blow dust off of a computer keyboard. If you hold it upside down and spray it on your clothes than the gum will freeze and become brittle. Then you just break it off.

I can't remember the name of it (sorry) but I bought this liquid/oil from a carpet/floor supply shop. It had an orange scent to it and it dissolved the gum, broke it down to little pieces/crystals and they washed out! Great stuff, maybe called "Gum Out"??? Good luck and God Bless!
