Use a steel can with handles on both sides; drive a fence post a couple of into the ground and place the can next to it with the post coming up through the handle. Most animals can't lift the can to knock it over. Then, if the lid doesn't snap on tightly, place a rock or cinder block on top of it.

Use coffee cans to put your table scraps in and disgard the can into the trash. What they cant smell they wont bother to try to eat. Works for me....I "had" a coon problem !

Most cans have hooks that keep the lid closed.
If yours doesn't look into buying one.
They also make mini-shed type enclosures that work.
