Distinctive intro
Well-sung vocals
Excellent drumming
Stand-out, memorable bassline

Rousing chorus, killer hookline
Really good lyrics (profound, humorous or just anthemic)
Excellent instrumental solo
Wonderful melodies

I like songs to 'represent' things. A particular rock song might become symbolic of a really happy time for me.

A particular group may 'represent' a crtain social group I belong to (ie, Oasis or the Arctic Monkeys represent 'lad' culture, the Verve always seemed to me to be 'thinking man's rock music,' the Stone Roses encapsulate my student years).

while you're finding for a metamorphosis in rock or steel attempt blending it up with the subgenres or what countless the main important impacts are in the back of the song. Melodic-dying people steel, experimental jazz etc. Finntroll is a properly-loved decision interior the country for people steel besides the undeniable fact that there are super pagan acts which contain Eluveitie or Moonsorrow (epic). If vocals make you drained then decide for organic guitar with some classics like Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, or hit stuff from whilst steel became in basic terms being born. you know, rock and steel are the toddlers of blues so attempt some thing new.

Good guitar riffs that make you want to jump around like a crazy git. A good, well paced rhythm with a tempo to match the mood of the song. And strong vocals, not the wimpy kind you hear in emo and indie crap these days.

Innovative ways of playing music. Like new sounds or things that sound strange all coming together harmoniously. A band that tries new song formats, instruments, but keeps it great sounding song. Also songs that make you get a feeling out of them, like Gene Autry by Beulah. It just makes you want summer to come and go outside or to the beach.
